Ever since I was a little boy, I dreamed of being a father one day. Leading, guiding, providing safety, security, and support to another growing human must be the most rewarding and satisfying thing ever.
I always knew inside that I was gay but pictured having a wife and kids – the house, family, career – the American dream. Children running around, laughing, learning, and playing. I longed for the chaos. As I grew older, I pushed all of this to the back of my mind since becoming a gay dad did not seem to be in the cards. I threw myself into my schooling and then my career. I would make excuses to my family and friends why I wasn’t in any relationships as others my age were marrying and starting families.
I want to be a father now because I have the stability in my life. Not only do I have an amazing future husband, an amazing home and support system, and career but I also am finally comfortable with myself – who I am as a person and who I’ll be to a little human. I want to provide the nurturing love, the education, and support for my child to be successful in whatever path they choose to take in life.
People say that being a parent is one of the most challenging but rewarding experiences in life. I cannot wait to take on that challenge with Michael and raise the perfect little family with a child, our dogs, and whatever else comes our way!
