Working with the public is something I have always done in one way or another.
I started working when I was in high school in retail – specifically, a local grocery store that was family owned. Interacting with people, even if just simple conversations in passing, has always interested me. Throughout high school, college, and several years beyond I was always in retail environments. Majority of my retail career was spent at Family Dollar Stores where I served a very diverse crowd daily. Seeing people from differing walks of life and connecting with them on various levels was rewarding.
R
etail became too much – there was not a lot of work/life balance.
I was given the opportunity to get into the Social Security Administration several years ago. Interacting with people from diverse backgrounds and places is one of the most enjoyable parts of my job. It is satisfying and rewarding to go to work every day and take on the challenges.
This is likely where I will spend the rest of my career because it will also allow me plenty of time to enjoy with our family which is now my main priority.
